The Man Who Would Be President
This essay is short. Perhaps we should have made an earlier endorsement for President. We considered it. But we didn't feel that either candidate had an "Internet Perspective." Our focus is on life, freedom and unfettered growth of the Internet. The candidates expressed few views in this area.
But now we are in the middle of an emerging crisis. ABC's NIGHTLINE quoted Democratic sources indicating that Gore will file lawsuits tomorrow or Monday. The Bush forces seem equally firm.
So tonight, three days after the election, the WIZARD, fkap is prepared to make it's endorsement.
This election is so close because, in spite of the hyperbole of the press, these candidates are incredibly similar. Both propose perscription coverage. Both want to increase education funding. Both want to strengthen and safegaurd social security.
Both candidates carefully walked down the fine center line of American politics. Let's be honest, this is no Goldwater - Johnson election.
The only possible difference will emerge if one shows the personal courage to step back from the abyss.
The candidate with the courage to withdraw and graciously accept defeat and put the country's interests above his own will emerge a hero and win the 2004 election by a landslide.
The candidate who extends the legal battle for months and to the supreme court will be a failed one term president.
My only fear.... neither of these two men may be statesman enough to lose the battle, but win the hearts and minds and gratitude of the American public.
The man who becomes president will be the man least qualified.
Our endorsement goes to the candidate with the courage to lose with grace.
