"Our beef hasn't been with the concept of sharing music; everyone knows that we've never objected to our fans trading tapes of our live concert performances."

Metallica and Dr. Dre Attend Napster Funeral

"We ALWAYS Wanted to Share Our Music"

Music Icons Settle Lawsuit with Napster

July 14, 2001

Here's a NEWS FLASH not worth the cyberspace the WIZARD is wasting by publishing it here: METALLICA and DR DRE have settled their long running disputes with NAPSTER.

While no exact details have emerged of the deal between the head cheer leaders for the RIAA and the thoroughly defeated and disgraced Napster, it is understood both acts now claim they want to make some of their music available on Napster.

Speaking with the same kind of love and respect that Brutus used after stabbing Julius Caesar to death, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich proclaimed "I think we've resolved this in a way that works for fans, recording artists, and songwriters alike. The problem we had with Napster was that they never asked us or other artists if we wanted to participate in their business. We believe that this settlement will create the kind of enhanced protection for artists that we've been seeking from Napster. We await Napster's implementation of a new model which will allow artists to choose how their creative efforts are distributed. It's good that they're going legit."

In a separate release, Dre said: "I work hard making music - that's how I earn a living. Now that Napster's agreed to respect that, I don't have any beef with them."

Isn't it easy to love the "Dead Guy?" Napster remains closed at present, under an absolute death sentence from Judge Marilyn Patel, issued on Wednesday, July 11, 2001. Napster is attempting to perfect a new filtering service that will bring it into the required 100% compliance required by Patel's latest ruling on restriction of copyrighted material. The company still claims it will launch a subscription service.
